Introduction to Liangzhou: Liangzhou District. Liangzhou District belongs to Weiwu City, Gansu Province, east to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, west to Sunan Yugu Autonomous County, south to Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County and Gulang County, and north to Yongchang County and Minqin County. As of 2014, Liangzhou District governs 19 towns and 18 townships, 2 ecological construction headquarters, 7 urban streets, and 5,081 square kilometers in the whole district. There are 449 villages, which are home to 25 ethnic groups including Han, Hui, Tibetan and Manchu. The population is 102.25 million (2012). Liangzhou District is a temperate continental arid climate. In 2010, more than 100 types of mines have been discovered in more than 100 types. The mineral resources are mainly coal, clay, quartz sand and fluorite. On July 27, 2001, with the approval of the State Council, the prefecture-level Wuwei City was established, and the former county-level Wuwei City was renamed Liangzhou District.
